Sheltie Patience
Declan adores his two nieces and nephew. He's always had unending patience for small kids- it's one of my favorite things about shelties, after a pretty traumatic childhood experience with a dog. He will literally let small children get away with pretty much anything... funny considering that this is a sheltie who gives warning "eep you almost stepped on me!" squeeks to the adults in the house. This weekend, Ana and Declan and I were sitting on the sofa, when I noticed that Ana had a HUGE chunk of Declan's loooooong hair and was contendedly tugging away. Pup was just lying there, letting her pull! Oh my. I had to spend a few moments unwrapping her little fingers, and she kept grabbing for more. I know... it's such nice soft hair, the same shade of red as your own hair, Ana.
To go with that, here's a picture that I took the morning that Declan and I moved to NJ. This was about 30 seconds after Kate met Declan for the first time in their lives:
