I love talking about photographs almost as much as I love taking them. My studio art education was very heavy on group critiques of each assignment, when we would spend 2 hours looking at a everyone's work and talking about it. I love bringing friends to museums and talking about whatever is in front of us, although it usually means I have to get sidetracked in a discussion of what "movement" is in a flat, still, completely stationary object on a wall. Or what a "focal point" is or "tension" in an abstract expressionist painting. My current favorite photographs: on flickr - I also have my favorite photos of KateMy camera: Canon EOS Elan 7 what i love about it: it's light, but not flimsy. i adore the apurture control on the back that fits right under my thumb. it's very easy to flip from fully automatic to fully manual, which are the only two modes i ever use. what i don't like about it: it's near impossible to focus manually with the lens that i use- the "preview circle thingie" in the center of the lens of some cameras that i've used makes it really clear when you're not focused. the lens i'm using now always looks focused- you have to concentrate to make it work, and forget about low light situations. i didn't think to really test this when i bought my camera, but now it's something i'll remember to look for. that's really about it- it's a great camera. if you want a nice serious-amateur camera, i totally recommend it. Current digital darkroom: Film developed to Kodak photo CD, then an ibook with Photoshop Favorite film: Fuji Superia (color) or T-Max 400 (b&w) Favorite photographers: Imogen Cunningham, Edward Weston, Jerry Uelsmann Favorite subjects: Cities, without a doubt, but not Seattle. And portraits, but I like very unposed photos. My favorite way to shoot adults is to take a photo a split second before I tell them "say cheese!" or something. And then take "the photo" with them all posed, and then two or four more. Those are the good ones. I don't do that with Kate, though- she's grown up with my taking tons of pictures of her, so she's really natural around cameras. Favorite painters: Matisse, Jackson Pollack photo supplies: amazon.com photo site, or b & h photo online store -where i bought my camera & get a lot of my film see more of my photos: my flickr page or photo.net page |
